Island
Coachways new tour programme for 2011
Island Tour allows you to take in the best
of Guernsey in a morning. Starting at the Bus
Terminus, in the centre of town, our tour coach will take you on a local
adventure. Our driver will talk to you about local history, folklore, modern
day life, and will be happy to answer your questions. This tour runs Tuesday at
10:30 and Saturday at 13:30, from May to October, finishing back in town at 14:00
and 17.00 respectively. Places visited include the Little Chapel, Pleinmont
Point, the West Coast and Pembroke.
We will also be running our Occupation Tour
weekly on Thursday morning from 10.30 to 14.30. During the dark days of
the Second World War the Channel Islands were the only part of the British Isles to be occupied by enemy forces. Guernsey
was invaded in June 1940 and remained under the jackboot for almost 5 long
years until finally being freed a day after the rest of Europe
on May 9, 1945. Come with us and see the results of those long years of
subjugation in the form of a massive construction project undertaken by the
forces of the Third Reich to make Guernsey a ‘Festung’ or impregnable
fortress. Built mainly by slave labour, the grim bunkers and gun
emplacements will help you to understand the reason why islanders still
celebrate Liberation Day with such joy.
Along with our tour, you will receive
discounted tickets for Fort Grey and the Guernsey Museum.
If you are bringing a group to Guernsey, we offer a range of specialist tours, including
Floral Guernsey, Guernsey Occupation Tour, the Archaeological sites and a tour
showing the sites mentioned in the book “The Guernsey Literary and Potato
Peeling Pie Society”. We can also bespoke tours around your own interests
for groups of all sizes.
Our sales manager, Isabel de Menezes, will
be able to explain more and find the tour that best meets your
requirements. For more information and
bookings, please email sales@icw.gg or call
720210 and press 1, or visit the Guernsey Information Centre in St Peter Port.
